Open Days 2016

The NGO JADE, in collaboration with the Alliance Française de Tamatave, organized the fourth edition of its "Open Days" project in 2016 at the Alliance française de Tamatave, with the aim of helping young people in Toamasina and the surrounding area gain easier access to new information and communication technologies. The project ran for one week from November 21 to 27, 2016. It consisted of two programming trainings called "Dev Bootcamp 2016" (HTML5, CSS3 and Java DSL) for beginners and more advanced learners, as well as conference-debates on ICT.

The first part of the training took place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for HTML5 programming and was attended by 16 learners aged between 18 and 34. The second part of the training took place on Thursdays and Fridays for the CSS3 language. Both trainings for beginners lasted 30 hours. The third part of the training covered Java DSL programming for more advanced learners and was given from Monday to Friday with a total of 17.5 hours. Twelve learners aged between 18 and 54 took part in this part of the training.

The two days of conference-debates on November 26 and 27 began after the trainings. The conferences allowed the sharing of experiences and knowledge in the field of ICT and were part of previous editions of the "Open Days" project. The first day of conferences was devoted to computer security and cybersecurity, while the second day focused on the opportunities offered by ICT for the economic and social development of Madagascar.

The OPEN DAYS 2016 project obtained good results, with 22 people having taken part in at least one of the two trainings offered and about 60 people having attended the conference-debates over the two days. 12 talks were given on various open source topics.
