Schooling 2011-2012
The NGO Jeunes Actifs pour le Développement (JADE) has run a project to help with primary-level schooling of disadvantaged children in the villages of Vatomandry, Ambodisaina and Ambodimanga since 2009, with the support of private German donors. The project aims to help families in rural areas finance their children's schooling and to encourage children to persevere in their studies. The NGO's intervention was carried out in four stages, with a preliminary survey among resource persons in each village, then among households in the village to determine the beneficiaries, and finally the implementation with the official payment of the school fee contribution and supplies for the 2011-2012 school year.
The third edition of the project took place in 2011, with the village of Tsarasambo replacing Vatomandry. Also in 2011, the NGO JADE offered an internship position to the German Ina Hoof, to assist and contribute to the various actions and tasks related to the schooling project.
Ambodimanga II - September 24, 2011
On September 24, 2011, the NGO JADE and a German intern distributed school scholarships to students of an EPP located in the Ambodimanga II fokontany, 10 km west of Fénérive-Est (Madagascar). Representatives of the EPP, the village's FRAM2 representative, the parents of the students and the students themselves were present at the distribution. Although the school headmaster attended a training session in Fénérive-Est, he was not present. The fokontany is difficult to access, as it is served only by a secondary road in poor condition, requiring a 4x4 or walking on foot. The inhabitants live mainly from subsistence farming, and about 95% of children are enrolled in school, with less than 90% of girls. There is only one EPP and one CEG3 in the village, sparing children from having to travel long distances to get to school.
Ambodisaina - September 26, 2011
The NGO JADE organized a ceremony for the handover of supplies and the annual school fees in Ambodisaina, attended by the Headmistress of the EPP, a FRAM representative and parents of students. The Ambodisaina fokontany is located in the suburban area of Toamasina II, less than 5 km from the city of Tamatave, with a population of 3,285 inhabitants living mainly from agriculture and the production and sale of charcoal and ravim-pontsy. The inhabitants of Ambodisaina earn on average between 25,000 and 30,000 Ariary per month.
Tsarasambo - October 15, 2011
The NGO JADE organized a handover of supplies and annual school fees for the scholarship students of the relevant EPP in Ambodisaina. Three members of the NGO and two external collaborators traveled there by private car. The session took place in the presence of the headmistresses of two EPPs, the parents of the scholarship students and the students themselves. Ambodisaina is a rural municipality located less than 5 km from the city of Tamatave, where inhabitants earn on average between 25,000 Ariary and 30,000 Ariary per month from agriculture and the production and sale of charcoal and ravim-pontsy.
This year, the project enabled the schooling of 30 children in financial difficulty, on average 9 years old, with a balanced distribution between girls and boys. The reasons for their difficult financial situation vary, ranging from the loss of a parent to unemployment of parents. Funding was obtained through the SorOptimisten Pirna Association and other private German donors. The girls were fully funded by the association, while the boys were funded by other sources and the intern's contribution towards accommodation costs. The total cost of the project amounted to 1,310,343 Ariary (476.50 euros).
