As part of environmental protection, the NGO JADE, in collaboration with Surfrider Foundation Europe, based in France, the NGO JADE set up a new edition of the Initiatives Océanes 2011; from March 24 to 26, an awareness campaign was organized in eleven institutions in Tamatave, including high schools, middle schools and associations, as well as among the local population. This initiative aimed to raise young people's awareness of the harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment, through video screenings. Participants also cleaned part of the Tamatave coastline, between the nautical club and another unspecified point.

The results were impressive: nearly 80% of the waste collected was plastic, and 37 bags were filled, or 5,550 liters of waste collected.

This campaign was led by the NGO JADE, with the participation of various institutions such as the Lycée Technique Poincaré, the Lycée Jacques Rabemananjara and the Université Barikadimy. This initiative had a significant impact on the population of Tamatave, raising awareness among students and the local population about the challenges of environmental protection.
