Ocean Initiatives 2022 - Fénérive-Est

Ocean Initiatives 2022 involves cleaning beaches or other waterways every spring, with the aim of raising awareness among young people in Fénérive-Est about the harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment. This awareness campaign aims to educate middle school students as well as the local population on the actions needed to protect the environment. NGO Jade's team organized a beach cleanup session for young middle schoolers in the Fénérive-Est region, followed by an audiovisual awareness session.

On the morning of May 18, 2022, the Jade team traveled to Fénérive-Est to accompany the young middle schoolers in their first beach cleanup. The activity began at 2 pm and was followed by an audiovisual awareness session in the main hall of the urban municipality, between 4 pm and 5 pm. After a well-deserved night's sleep, the Jade team returned to Tamatave the following morning.

In the second part of the afternoon of May 18, 2022, NGO Jade screened a video titled "Protecting the Ocean from Plastic Waste" to raise environmental education awareness among the young people of Fénérive-Est. The young people also took part in an environmental quiz and answered flawlessly, earning them a small prize as a reward.

The results of this campaign were encouraging: three schools (CEG Sahavola, CEG Amparatanana and CEG Ambatarihy) took part in this project with around 70 students involved. About 80% of the waste collected was plastic, but thanks to this initiative, around 300 meters of beach were cleaned. This action helped raise young people's awareness of the need to protect the environment and take concrete steps to preserve our planet.

In short, Ocean Initiatives 2022 was a positive experience that helped involve young people in environmental protection and raise their awareness of the harmful consequences of plastic waste. These educational actions can help shape a generation of more aware and responsible citizens, capable of caring for our planet for future generations.
